Outdoor play brand Timbalaya seals first franchise deal with Kuwaiti firm

Timbalaya, the British-based story-led adventure play IP, has announced its first project will be in Kuwait.

The natural play attraction specialist has partnered with Touristic Enterprises Company (TEC) to deliver a £4m custom-designed installation.

Timbalaya’s outdoor play facilities can feature climbing structures, water, forests, towers, castles, mazes and enchanted houses, while riddles, challenges and goals enhance the child’s experience.

TEC is charged with developing and promoting the tourism and entertainment industries in Kuwait, overseeing a portfolio of projects that include parks, leisure clubs and the Kuwait Towers.

“As part of our development and expansion plans, we're always looking to partner with experts from around the globe to bring the people of Kuwait exciting and innovative entertainment experiences,” said TEC CEO Abdul Wahab Al-Marzouq.

“Timbalaya is a fresh idea that we felt would be a perfect fit and would give us a completely new experience we've not seen before in this region.”

The Kuwait play facility is expected to open by 2020 and will feature the IP’s narrative and characters, which is based in the village of Wishing and features Buzzbirds, the Borroble Bear and Spangle Stargazer.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be heading to Kuwait,” said Timbalaya’s Sylvia Matiko. “The healthy development of children is at the very heart of Timbalaya and to have found a likeminded company in TEC is exciting for all of us. They understand the benefits of imaginative and physical outdoor play to the wellbeing of our children.”

Timbalaya, which launched in 2015, has signalled that additional franchise deals are close to signing off.
